Fairbourne Station Promenade and Plaza

Owner: West Valley City

Architect: GSBS Architects

Location: West Valley City, Utah

Size: 4 acres

The Plaza portion of the project is designed to accommodate daily public use as well as special events. The Plaza includes a performance stage, hardscape and water feature, a large, unique shade structure and lighting to accent the project. Benches and covered tables were placed in the Plaza for visitors to enjoy the view and the sound of the water running down the steps of the stage.

The Promenade is an urban park in the heart of West Valley City. It has open space with both lawn and paved areas for community and family activities. The park’s design includes an interactive scale near the original site of a scale that Joseph Fairbourne supplied for local farmers to weigh their produce on the way to market in the late 19th century. The Promenade has a river running through the middle of it with lush, green grass on either side, giving the area a spacious, rural feel even though it is surrounded by businesses and busy city streets.
